Syllas Tzoumerkas was born in 1978 in Thessaloniki. His feature films Homeland (Venice, 2010), A Blast (Locarno, 2014) and The Miracle of the Sargasso Sea (Berlinale, 2019) participated in over 200 festivals and got theatrically released in many countries around the world. He co-wrote the scripts of Argyris Papadimitropoulos’ Suntan (Rotterdam, SXSW, 2016) and Ahmad Ghussein’s All This Victory (Venice, 2019), and participated as an actor in feature films Wasted Youth (Rotterdam, 2011), Suntan (Rotterdam, SXSW, 2016) and Monday (in post-production) by Argyris Papadimitropoulos and The Eternal Return of Antonis Paraskevas (Berlinale, 2013) by Elina Psykou. In theatre, film, video, live-art and multi-platform projects he has collaborated with Youla Boudali, the blitz theatre group, the Erasers, Onassis Stegi, the Gesher Multicultural Fund, Thessaloniki International Film Festival, the Greek National Opera, MoMUS, etc.. His next film projects, multi-platform 70min film / installation The City and the City (co-direction with Christos Passalis) and feature My Soul Startled, are in production and development stages, respectively.
